今回は釣りで使える英語を紹介します。

釣りに慣れてくると、頻繁にカタカナを聞くようになります。ですが、本当の意味が分かっていなかったり、なんとなくで認識してしまってはいないでしょうか？

今回は釣りでよく使う単語や、英単語の由来などを紹介していきたいと思います。釣りは世界共通なので、海外に行く際は参考にしてみてください。

  • 釣り：fishing
  • 釣り人：angler（Fisher や fisherman はプロの漁師を指します）
  • 釣り場：fishing spot
  • 釣り船：fishing boat
  • 釣る、釣果：catch（「釣る」と「釣った魚の数や大きさ」を表します）
  • 今日はマダイが釣りたいです。
    I want to catch sea bream today.
  • 今日は釣果に恵まれました。
    Today I had a good catch!
  • 解禁日：opening day
  • 狙う魚：target fish（Fish の複数形は fish。種類が複数の場合は fishes です）
  • 餌釣り：bait fishing
  • ルアーフィッシング：lure fishing
  • 海釣り：ocean fishing / sea fishing
  • 淡水の釣り：freshwater fishing

特定の場所からの釣り

  • 岸からの釣り：shore fishing / surf fishing
  • 堤防からの釣り：bank fishing
  • 磯釣り（岩礁や離れ岩からの釣り）：fishing from rocks by the shore / fishing from the rocky shore
  • サーフフィッシング（砂浜からの釣り）：fishing on the beach（surf は海岸に打ち寄せる波を意味します）
  • 沖釣り：offshore fishing
  • 船釣り：boat fishing
  • ポイント（釣りをする場所）：spot
  • 防波堤：breakwater

釣り具・釣り用品の名称

  • 釣り具、釣り道具：fishing gear
  • タックル（竿、リール、糸［仕掛けを含むときも含まないときもある］など何かを釣る目的に使う道具一式）：tackle
  • 竿：rod / fishing rod / pole / fishing pole
  • リール：reel
  • スピニングリール：spinning reel
  • ベイトリール：bait reel
  • 糸、ライン：line
  • 仕掛け：rig
  • 釣り針：hook
  • おもり：sinker
  • 浮き：float / bobber
  • サルカン、スイベル（糸と仕掛けなどを連結するパーツ）：swivel
  • ルアー：lure（動詞では「誘う、おびき出す」という意味）
  • フライ、ハエ、虫に見せかけた疑似餌：fly
  • ラインカッター：line cutter
  • 釣った魚をすくう網、たも網：landing net
  • びく、取った魚を入れる籠：creel
  • バケツ：bucket
  • クーラーボックス：cooler
  • ライフジャケット：life jacket
  • 胴長、ウェーダー：waders
  • （ゴムの）長靴：rubber boots

釣りをするときの動作や状況を表す表現

  • 釣り針を糸につける：tie the hook on the line
  • 餌を釣り針につける：put the bait on the hook
  • キャストする（竿を振って仕掛けを投げる）：cast
  • （餌を狙ったところに）落とす：put the bait successfully onto the targeted point
  • 底を取る（仕掛けが底についたことを感知する）：feel the rig reach the bottom
  • 今日は流れが早いから底を取るのが難しい。
    It’s hard to feel the rig reach the bottom because the current is fast today.
  • 竿を立てる：stand the rod
  • 竿を寝かせる：lay the rod down
  • ロッドホルダーに置く：put one’s rod on a rod holder
  • しゃくる（魚を誘うために竿を操る）：handle the rod for luring fish
  • 竿をゆっくり上下に動かす：move the rod slowly up and down
  • 合わせる（魚に針まで食わせた状態にする）：let it swallow
  • リールを巻く：reel up
  • 糸を手繰り寄せる：pull in the line / haul the line
  • 引き上げる：pull up
  • 魚を網に入れる：scoop the fish with a landing net / put the fish in a net
  • 魚を針からはずす：unhook the fish
  • バケツに入れる：put the fish in a bucket
  • 魚を（意図的に）逃がす、放す：release fish
  • （リールにまかれた）糸を出し過ぎる：spool out the line too much
  • 根掛かりする：get snagged
  • 糸ふけ、たるみ：line slack
  • ばらす（魚を逃がしてしまう）：miss the fish
  • 坊主、まったくつれないこと：blank / get skunked

魚の動きとそれへの対応に関わる表現

  • あたりがある（魚が餌やルアーをつつく）：pick
  • かかる（魚が餌に食いつく）：bite
  • 乗る（魚の口に針がしっかりかかる）：get stuck
  • 引く（かかった魚が糸を引いている、逃げようと戦っている）：pull / fight
  • 引いてる！
    It’s pulling! / It’s fighting!
  • ばれる、魚が去る：go
  • 逃げられた！（その魚は行ってしまった！）
    The fish is gone. / It’s gone!

釣り場での会話例

今日の釣りはどんな調子ですか？
How is your fishing today?

午前は結構釣れたんですが午後からは全くですね……。
It was good in the morning but became sour from the afternoon.

何か釣れましたか？
Did you catch any fish?

私はまだ何も釣れていません。
I haven’t caught any fish yet.

何が釣れました？
What did you catch?

小さなイワシが釣れました。
I caught a small sardine.
